Environmental Justice: It's All Connected
Reverend Matthew McHale, Guest Speaker
When we think about the environment, we often think about being in nature, the forests, the mountains, the ocean. Likewise, environmentalism is often narrowly focused on the protection of our natural world. What is often lost in this perception is humans. Too often we forget our interdependence with the natural world, and overlook the ways that environmental/climate impacts disproportionately burden poor communities and communities of Color. For this Earth Day service, we remember that the struggles for justice and the environment are inextricably connected.
Reverend Matthew McHale grew up at UUCLB, and the congregation ordained him as minister in 2015. Matthew is currently serving as the Minister at Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church in the San Fernando Valley. He is deeply passionate about the intersection between the environment/climate, racism and classism.
